1. Present Simple – Affirmative

We use the Present Simple to talk about:
- things we do regularly (habits, routines)
- facts and general truths

Structure

Subject + base form of the verb (+ -s / -es for he, she, it)


Spelling rules for –s / –es

- Add -s: work → works, read → reads
- Add -es: go → goes, watch → watches, do → does
- Change -y to -ies: study → studies, cry → cries

Examples in sentences

- I like pizza.
- She likes apples.
- We live in Székesfehérvár.
- He watches TV every evening.
- They go to school at 8 o’clock.

Signal words

These words often tell us we need Present Simple:
always, usually, often, sometimes, never, every day, on Mondays

Examples:
- I always brush my teeth in the morning.
- He usually walks to school.

2. Present Simple – Questions

Structure

There are two types of questions:

    1. Yes / No questions

Do / Does + subject + verb (base form)


💡 Remember:
If the question starts with Does, we never add -s to the main verb!


    2. Wh- questions (Question words)

Wh- word + do / does + subject + verb (base form)

3.  Present Simple Negative

Structure

Subject + do/does + not + verb (base form)

Important rule

When we use doesn’t, the main verb goes back to its base form (without -s).

4. Adverbs of frequency

- We use adverbs of frequency to say how often we do something.

Common adverbs of frequency



Word Order

The adverb usually comes before the main verb:
- I always get up early.
- They often go to the park.

BUT after the verb to be (am / is / are):
- She is usually happy.
- We are never late.

Examples

- I always do my homework.
- He never watches horror films.
- We usually eat dinner at 7 o’clock.
- They sometimes go swimming.
- She is often tired in the morning.
- He is not often late for school.
