1. Present Simple – Affirmative
We use the Present Simple to talk about:
- things we do regularly (habits, routines)
- facts and general truths
Structure
Subject + base form of the verb (+ -s / -es for he, she, it)
Spelling rules for –s / –es
- Add -s: work → works, read → reads
- Add -es: go → goes, watch → watches, do → does
- Change -y to -ies: study → studies, cry → cries
Examples in sentences
- I like pizza.
- She likes apples.
- We live in Székesfehérvár.
- He watches TV every evening.
- They go to school at 8 o’clock.
Signal words
These words often tell us we need Present Simple:
always, usually, often, sometimes, never, every day, on Mondays
Examples:
- I always brush my teeth in the morning.
- He usually walks to school.
